From Learning to Growing Together: Building Health and Wellbeing Together Through Cultural Collaboration
從共學到共同成長:跨越文化共建健康與福祉
Translate For Her (TheM) is excited to announce a transformative two-year co-learning project focused on the health and wellbeing of ethnic minority women, funded by the PCD. This project aims to deepen the community engagement of ethnic minority women, empower them with equal participation and co-learning approaches, enhance their voices, and facilitate the shift of their roles from passive participants to active contributors. Additionally, TheM is committed to fostering cross-cultural collaboration, and we believe that health and wellbeing are universal experiences that able to connect people of all backgrounds.
Co-Learning as tHEM'S community practice

collective learning activities
To promote health and wellbeing of ethnic minority women and further address their needs, TheM organises various activities covering different topics.

Monthly
Self-Care Corner
It is common that ethnic minority women prioritise the needs of others over their own due to their roles as family caregivers and emotional labor providers. This lack of self-care can lead to chronic stress and negatively impact their physical and mental health. To address this, TheM created 'Self-Care Corner,' a continuous activity aimed at promoting relaxation and holistic health. Through this initiative, we hope to empower women to step back from societal expectations, acknowledge their own needs and value, and develop self-care practices that they can incorporate into their daily lives.
Our ladies have successfully formed a group to regularly co-learn and practice self-care. They collaboratively determine activities and take turns organising them now.
Stretching
co-learninG Group

Physical health is essential for personal well-being and undoubtedly is a shared experience for many. In 2022-2023, TheM organised yoga, boxing, and pain management workshops, but we found that one-time sessions often do not help women incorporate exercise into their daily lives. The idea of forming a stretching group came from some conversations with the ladies who showed a keen interest in health and fitness, yet overwhelmed by household responsibilities even they have alone time and enough space to do exercise.
The group aims to offer a supportive place for ethnic minority women to temporarily step away from their roles as wives, mothers, and daughters, and to reclaim time for themselves, listen to their bodies, relax, and connect with others in a supportive space.
Applying the approach of co-learning, the stretching exercises are shared by each lady, and everyone take turns to host the activity.
